2008-2009
The prestigious Malaysia Tourism Awards was first introduced in 1987 by the then Ministry of Culture,
Arts and Tourism as a tribute to individuals and organizations who excelled in the development of Malaysia's tourism industry.
Originally called the "Malaysia Tourism Gold Awards”, it was later renamed the Malaysia Tourism Awards in 1993 to better reflect the distinction of the awards to the industry.
Malaysia Tourism Awards 2000 marked the first Award given to foreign winner who had equally contributed towards the success of Malaysia's tourism industry overseas. The awards offered this year for foreign participants are Innovative Tourism Publication and Best Foreign Tour Operator. The Best Foreign Tour Operator Award is presented to top-selling tour operators in all major markets by region, covering Europe, West Asia / Africa, South Asia, ASEAN, East Asia, America and North Asia.
Nominees for Malaysia Tourism Awards 2008-2009 comprise industry players and those who have made
outstanding contribution to the development of Malaysia's tourism industry. The 16th Malaysia Tourism Awards covers 12 categories encompassing 46 awards. Each recipient will be presented with a trophy and certificate while finalists will receive Merit Certificates. The recipients from each category are chosen for their excellence in service and tireless efforts in promoting Malaysia's tourism in their respective fields.
